Ghost Upon the Floor

  And so it begins. Nature's way of ushering in the harvest, the Full Harvest Moon (seen here), is peaking. Best  seen in the Northern Hemisphere, what distinguishes the harvest's full moon is that it's moon typically rises about 25-30 minutes later each night, as opposed to the usual 50 minutes later. The moon, appearing in the lower southeastern sky, was given its name when farmers used the moon's light to continue gathering their harvested crops after sunset.


 These photos are from my front yard, and taken on my iPhone, and I wish they could have been of better quality. But I think they show, nonetheless, the position, height and fullness of this first full moon of the harvest.

 And here, in my local supermarket, the very first signs of the harvest for sale. I believe it goes without saying that I love this time of year, and welcome autumn, the harvest and the fall of the changing leaves back with open arms.

Also, I took this photo well over a week ago, and have been meaning to post it.

How beautiful, how simple, how perfect- how needed this fallen leaf is; the beginning of the season.

Found by my mother in front of her house this morning.

I've posted quite a bit about my local Forest Lawn Cemetery, here in Buffalo, New York. In early July, I spent the larger half of a slightly overcast afternoon crawling the cemetery, taking photos and videos on my phone-- the visit was very spur of the moment.

It is possible I took hundreds of photos that day. Rather than overwhelming an entire post with even half of them, I've decided to break down the trip into segments.

I will begin with what I think is one of the most striking monuments in the sprawling cemetery. Forest Lawn's map describes Samuel F. Pratt, for whom the memorial is made, as "One of the greatest developers of Buffalo and its industries whose imposing memorial of great decorative beauty is set off by a group of angels."

I know little to nothing about Samuel, although I believe a relative of his owed the house I live in during the 1800s. And I don't know if I would deem these women figures angels; they have a very, shall we say, earthly quality to their expressions and weights.

Is coming.

It's August. The last several days here have brought wind, rain. A slight chill to the air at night. Gone is the oppressive, heavy heat and humidity. Something cooler, darker, on the wind this way comes. Yes, it is fall- and the autumn season of the witch is almost here.



And, yes, that sun-catcher hangs in my kitchen widow all year.

Russel Stover candy company is producing the Cadbury Creme
Eggs normally associated with the Easter holiday.... for Halloween.

I give you Russel Stover's Buzzard Creme Eggs. To my knowledge, I haven't seen these before, though I very well may have been oblivious to the fact these existed for years.

Nevertheless, I do believe this is a welcome addition to the canon of Hallowen candy-- whenever it did, indeed, arrive.

Anyone spotted this sign of the season yet? I do believe they'll begin cropping up around here soon, in time for the harvest.

 The store locator on their website lists locations for this year, but with no definite opening dates other than "Opening Soon!" 

 Hopefully, the wait will not be too long. Has anyone seen any signs of a store yet?
