Yankee Candle "Boney Bunch" Halloween Preview 2011

Words do not easily convey how much the Ghost loves the Yankee Candle Company's "Boney Bunch" line. For the past few years, the "Boney Bunch" has sky-rocketed to holiday popularity, quickly selling out within days of arriving in the stores, and soaring to higher prices for collectors on eBay.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 10AM at your local store, is the "After Life Party," the preview for the 2011 "Boney Bunch" line. The store knows full well what seasonal gold they have with this line, as I just received a voicemail from an employee calling to remind those who signed up for the party that on Saturday morning their will be refreshments and raffles at the preview party.

Last year, my favorite buy was the Boney Gothic Farmer Couple. Desperately, though, I had wanted some of the raven themed items, and the Headless Horseman themed one. (As well as the skeleton couple in bed, too.)

They've released this video, and I have to say, the Reaper and the Chapel are my early favorites.

Saturday cannot come soon enough! I will be live-blogging from the store when I am there.

UPDATE: I see that the line is available to peruse, and purchase, online.

Do you see what I see?

My first sighting of Halloween 2011 occurred earlier today, Thursday, July 14 2011 at 12:30PM at an AC Moore Crafts Store in Western New York.

It's hard to believe summer is coming up on being half way over, and I could not have been more pleasantly surprised to see these early harbingers of autumn, as I drove past a shopping plaza this afternoon.

Already, I'm beginning to feel the anxiety that I am already behind, I won't be able to get it all done before the big night, that this year won't be all I want it to be. It's a good feeling to be able, then, to stand back and realize it's only July.

Are You Afraid?

You know you're born this way from a very young age. I can remember being a kid, just in grade school, and checking out the ghost story books in the library. Anxiously awaiting a new episode of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" on Nickelodeon. And knowing there were things out there far scarier.

Submitted for the approval of our Midnight Society, tonight I give you the episode of the Nickelodeon show, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?," which ran from 1990-1996 on the children's programming channel in the United States and Canada, that most had its effect on my young subconscious.

Perhaps no episode had the impression on me that "The Tale of the Manaha" did. Years later, when I saw "The Blair Witch Project" in the theater for the first time with my friends, and was so terrified I couldn't sleep that night at a friend's house at a sleep-over party, I'd remember this episode, and where the fear of what happens when you're lost in the woods first comes from.

It's a pity that kids today don't have shows anywhere near the like of this one.

Life Amid Gravestones

And now, for something different. As any reader of my postings here knows, I love Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. Over 269 acres, Forrest Lawn stands in the heart of my city, a Frederick Law Olmstead designed park begun in the late 1800s. I try to get back there as often as I can, taking my camera through the sprawling hills, towering monuments and simple stones.

But now there is life springing up amid the graves. A mother goose has laid her eggs in an urn somewhere within the cemetery, and one of the deer who also live in the cemetery has befriended her, and stands guard while the mother lays on and guards her eggs. It's quite the beautiful sight, and I'd love to see them in person-- but although I can tell where within the cemetery this unorthodox couple is residing, I do not wish to disturb them.

Below, you can view their 24 hour webcam of the deer and goose. While I love the tale of these two animals, a view inside the cemetery at night is something I consider rather priceless. And worth watching well into the night.
